Last night we paid homage to two Capiznon national artists – Jovita Fuentes and Daisy Hontiveros Avellana, and witnessed a stellar piano recital.
The Roxas City Government through the Ang Panublion Museum, in partnership with Gerry Roxas Training and Convention Center, C.H.I.L.D.’s Academy, Inc. and Capiz State University Roxas City Main Campus, hosted “Handumanan: A Musical Homage to Capiznon National Artist.”
Vice Mayor Inday Teresa Almalbis, the niece of Daisy Hontiveros, a national artist for theater gave the welcome remarks. It was followed by a lecture on the career of Jovita Fuentes and Daisy Hontiveros Avellana, by Christian George Acevedo, a librarian from Capiz State University. This was followed by a film showing of documentaries and clips about Ms. Fuentes and Ms. Hontiveros.
The highlight was the piano performance of Dr. Clement Acevedo, a renowned Capiznon pianist, featuring the works of Bach, Mozart, Prokofiev, and selected Filipino composers. Joining him was Capiznon soprano Rica San Agustin Goldyn.
It was indeed an amazing night of music and artistry – a testament that Roxas City is a breeding ground of world-class Filipino talents.
