Monday, May 04 2015

San Jose Barangay Captain Jericho Celino of Roxas City was recently named "Sandugo" awardee in Western Visayas by the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC).

Raymundo Martinez, PNRC Capiz officer-in-charge, explained that "Sandugo" recognizes barangays whose chief executives take active participation in the bloodletting program. Their barangays should have reached at least 25 donors equivalent to 1 percent of their total population.

A program of the Department of Health National Blood Voluntary Services, Sandugo is held yearly from national down to local level to encourage people to donate blood.

Celino said he was surprised by the said award. He first became a blood donor for his brother Jordan who suffered from an ailment about two years ago.

Also awarded were the barangays of Capagao in Panitan and Poblacion Sur in Ivisan; and the town of Dao, Capiz.

A former executive assistant of his father, Mayor Angel Alan B. Celino, Jericho decided to run for barangay captain to formalize his entry in Roxas City politics. His friends are urging him to run for city councilor.

Celino said he wants to instill the spirit of volunteerism and concern toward his fellow his fellow being through voluntary blood donation.
